Eraserhead(1976) - 10/10 stars
Eraserhead is a movie that I could watch over and over but probably shouldn't.  Of David Lynch's films, I would describe this one as his best but also his hardest watch and most disturbing.  Jack Nance does a perfect job at the playing the main character.  While I would recommend this one, I would recommend that most of you only see it once.

Machete(2010) - 8/10 stars
Robert Rodriguez is, in my opinion, one of the most overrated directors in film today.  Of his movies, there has only been one that I enjoyed and that was Sin City.  However, it seems that are two now.  Machete was great.  It has the feel of a 70's exploitation film and everything that goes along with that.  You definitely need to check this one out.

 








Piranha 3-D(2010) - 2/10
 This sad excuse for a remake should have been fun to watch to at least laugh at its flaws.  This was not the case at all.  Alexandre Aja has the disturbing factor down pat but his ability to follow the storyline is completely lacking to the point of almost being pathetic.  I would at least wait till this one hits video stores before you go and see it.

Devil(2010) - 10/10 stars
Devil is very possibly the best film of the year though it will not be recognized as such on a larger scale.  The great thing about this film is it brings simplicity back into the movies.  Our culture has become so ADD that movies like Rope and Rear Window that take place in one room have been forgotten.  This picture brings that style back and I sure as hell hope it catches on.  Kudos to M. Night Shyamalan for writing an original story, something that no one else in this day and age seems to be able to do.

Twin Peaks(1990-1991) - 10/10 stars
Now I've probably reviewed it several times before but having watched it again recently, I can't help but stress the fact that this is the greatest television series since the original Twilight Zone.  David Lynch, in my opinion, is the most versatile and original filmmaker of our time.  It is highly unlikely that you will be able to watch only one episode.  And when you finally get to the end of the series, you will experience a climax like you've never seen before.

Eastbound and Down(2009-????) - 9/10 stars
I thought this show was a fantastic break from the standard comedy fare that we've been experiencing lately.  Fans of Danny McBride will seldom be disappointed with his portrayal of a washed out, former major league pitcher forced to live with his brother's family.  The beautiful thing about this show is that while it is hilarious, it is also very somber and bordering on depressing.  It makes you laugh, but will also make you think and appreciate the writing.  Season 2 comes out soon!

   







Mortuary(2005) - 3/10 stars
I have been meaning to catch a glimpse at this film since it came out 5 years ago being that I'm usually fairly impressed with Tobe Hooper's work.  He did create the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, after all.  However, the film simply starts off with a promise it can't, or has no intention of keeping.  Poor acting, worse writing and some of the most miserable effects I've seen.  I'd stay away from this one.

Life is Beautiful(1997) - 9/10 stars
If you're like me, you probably don't generally enjoy holocaust movies.  This film was different for me because it had enough heart and originality to bring a very touching story out of a dark and miserable time in history.  I think everyone should see this film at least once but be prepared to feel water under your eyelids!

Pumping Iron(1977) - 7/10 stars
I've always been a huge fan of Arnold, not because he's a good actor but few people can deny that he is one of the most entertaining people of all time.  I had never seen Pumping Iron though I had heard about endlessly.  In any case, I'm glad I finally checked it out.  I would not call it a good film or a testament of good filmmaking but it was certainly hilarious to see Arnold make fun of Lou Ferrigno for 90 minutes.
